Sarah Catucci

My mission is to create a safe environment where your child will talk about the feelings they experience. By doing this, they may feel heard and not so alone with their emotions. I enjoy working with children and families to help navigate the challenges of life. I want parents to understand their child better. I will help parents and children reconnect and strengthen their relationship. I will work with parents and give tangible strategies to try with their child. Parents don’t have to feel they are alone in the trenches of parenting. Dr. Zeller and Dr. Green

(301) 951-0320

A developmental optometrist is a specialized eye doctor that considers the health and function of your whole visual system. They evaluate the process of how you see and the interpretation of what you see, which is more than just eyesight (how clearly you can see). Hence, they are highly skilled in identifying and treating vision problems that interfere with reading, learning, and other activities of daily living. Vision therapy is a non-surgical therapy that treats many vision problems by developing and strengthening skills needed by your whole visual system. The therapy is delivered via one-on-one sessions in addition to at-home "exercises" that train your eyes to work together, track, perceive and focus properly.

Developmental Physician

Dr. Chuck Ng

(301) 984-9791

Potomac Psychiatry will do “Whatever It Takes” to help children, adolescents and adults feel well and recover their health. Utilizing the latest scientific discoveries to uncover the root causes of emotional distress, including genetic and other cutting-edge laboratory tests, their clinicians provide uniquely personalized evaluation and treatment plans. They listen carefully to their patients’ concerns, and care deeply about achieving the best possible outcomes. For children with autism spectrum disorder, Potomac Psychiatry’s clinicians help them reach their full potential through treatment guided by neurodevelopmental genetic testing, folate receptor antibody (FRAT) testing, gut microbiome assessment, and by building on their unique strengths and abilities. Recognizing that individuals with autism are not "ill," the goal is to ensure that each child has a fulfilling life and achieves their highest potential.

Non-Academic, Nature-Based PreSchools

We understand from solid research and many bodies of work that what is most important for children from birth to 6 is freedom of movement, play, and rich sensory experiences. We know that sitting behind desks or at tables and high academic demands create less likelihood of academic success once children reach their academic years. Many preschools in our area say “play-based;” however, they simply mean that they are using “fun” tools to learn academic skills. The schools listed below are not focused on academics, and there will not be learning for academic success toward reading. They are looking at the marathon, not the sprint: social-emotional health, naturalistic play for developing critical, imaginative skills required for learning, and building foundational childhood skills so they are ready for learning when their brain is ready, at first grade. Lastly, while we have identified that these programs align with evidence and our approach as a practice, we can’t vouch for them in the sense of their procedures, teachers, etc.

Discovery Early Learning Center

Washington Waldorf cultivates each student’s capacity to think clearly, feel compassionately, and act purposefully in the world. We are committed to the education movement inspired by the pioneering work of Austrian philosopher Rudolf Steiner and advanced by Waldorf teachers worldwide. Children have very different capacities at different ages and our curriculum is designed to meet the students where they are. We believe young children need to spend much of their time in free play, building their capacities for imagination and goal setting, along with social skills and small motor skills. WWS is an oasis where children can be children. Our goal is to help our students know who they are so that when that time comes, they can go forward with confidence that they are equipped to thrive.

At Acorn Hill Waldorf Kindergarten & Nursery, we strive to encourage and protect the sense of wonder and gratitude nourishing the child’s imagination, and to provide a warmth-filled place to work, play and create. We believe that play is the serious work of childhood, and that learning by doing provides the foundation for critical thinking, problem solving and a lifelong enthusiasm for knowledge. Our pre-academic programs nurture imitative and imaginative play, social and physical activity, and an appreciation for beauty and nature. The programs endow children with a strong sense of self and a platform for success in later academic pursuits by building sound logical reasoning, mental capabilities and a reverence for life. We let children be children!

We believe children are happier and healthier outside. In an age of specialization and emphasis on advanced academic achievement, Outdoor Nursery School stands for its belief that children can and need to learn through play. We believe each child is a unique individual who must be allowed to explore the realm of childhood in keeping with his or her own needs. Therefore, we are alert to the broad development differences due to age, personality, and rates of growth. We provide an interpersonal and physical environment to support each child's development and learning style.

Through a balanced mix of nature, nurture, and academic success, our students learn kindness and cooperation and develop their imaginations. They exercise curiosity and build confidence, skills, and knowledge for the future and to protect our world. Our preschoolers spend every day outdoors, rain or shine - in fact, wet and rainy days provide some of our most magical experiences. Our preschool curriculum emphasizes children being in the moment, engaging with the environment in deep and meaningful ways, and exploring through all of their senses.

Our Discover Our World Approach is a unique way of being with and learning along-side children that focuses on relationships, individualized care, meeting the children where they are, and supporting their process of learning. We provide children with the time, space, and permission to unfold naturally through rich, real-life, hands-on active learning experiences. The focus is to support the development of well-rounded lifelong learners who are self-starters and critical thinkers. We strive to develop stewards of the Earth through our Nature Education program and believe that children who spend time in nature learning to care for Earth will develop into adults who are eco-conscious, and more physically and mentally healthy.

Gritty Explorers

Dr. David Cranford

(301) 327-4434

Our psychological assessments and services are designed to capture young people's true nature, strengths, and capacities to understand their needs and the best support to reach their full potential. Using a collaborative method between a nationally certified school psychologist and a clinical psychologist, our evaluative process considers each of the environments where young people spend the most time, resulting in educational and medical results. We communicate these results in a beautifully written, thorough report and a 90-minute virtual review with the child's family. At Young & Well, we offer a collaborative team approach to support young people, their families, and their schools with information, guidance, and education so that they can make informed decisions in all areas of the child’s life.
